Edward Benson, 77, services held May 22
Services were held for Edward Benson at 11:00 a.m.,Friday May 22, 1992, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cresco,IA. The Rev. Steven Egland officiated with interment in the Oak Lawn Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He became ill with cancer in December of 1991 and returned home for a period of time before entering the Howard County Hospital where he died, Tuesday, May 19, 1992, at the age of 77.
Edward Manford Benson was born March 10, 1915, at Chester, IA, the son of Bernard and Annabelle (Ackerman) Benson. He attended school at Chester and high school for two years and then stayed at home to help with the farming.
On April 16, 1941, he married Edith Bronner at the parsonage of Immanuel Lutheran. Ed and Edith moved to Cresco after their marriage and Ed had a station for a time, worked for Cresco Machine and then began working for Porter Appliance. For a short time he and Ed Verbeck owned the store in partnership. Later the store became Cresco Appliance and Ed returned to work and helped in the business.
Surviving are his wife, Edith; two sisters, Bernice Gillespie of Cresco and Gladys Herrian of Waterloo and two brothers, Harlan Benson of Postville, IA and Leslie Benson of Dinsdale, IA.
Preceding him in death were his parent; a sister at birth and four brothers, Harry, Floyd, Jack and Merrill.
