Elmer Francis Betts

Elmer Francis Betts, son of Martin and Mary A. Betts, was born July 8, 1870, and passed away Friday, June 2, 1933, at his home in Cedar Rapids, aged 62 years, 10 months and 24 days.

Mr. Betts was born in Howard county where he attended school and the Methodist church. Later he attended Upper Iowa University at Fayette.

On October 10, 1894, he was united in marriage to Rosalia M. Watros and lived on their homestead five miles northeast of Cresco until 1914 when the moved to Cresco. Five years later they moved to Cedar Rapids where they were making their home at the time of Mr. Betts decease. His wife passed away July 26, 1927.

He is survived by his aged mother, Mrs. Mary A. Betts of Cresco, a brother, Edwin of Wayside, Nebraska; three children, Elwin Betts of Cedar Rapids; Elta (Mrs. Lawrence Thornton) of St. Petersburg, Florida; and Amy (Mrs. Clarence Clink) of Cresco; six grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Betts was a good husband and father, friend and neighbor, and will be greatly missed by those who knew him.

The body was brought to Cresco on Monday, accompanied by deceased's son, Elwin. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at two o'clock at Bradley undertaking parlor, the Rev. W.H. Mitchell, pastor of the Cresco M.E. church officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.
