PONCE INLET, FL - Jerry Nichols, 64, of Ponce Inlet, Fla. died on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 after a long struggle with ALS. On Jan. 18 his ashes were delivered to the sea by friends and family. The whales and dolphins watched and welcomed as Jerry went to meet his Sally.

Jerry Nichols was born Dec. 11, 1949 in Cresco, the son of Jean and Lillian (Peckham) Nichols. After graduating from Crestwood High School and marrying Kathy Vagts Nichols, they moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., where Jerry attended and graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.

With their children Sally and Ashley, they traveled the Renaissance Faire circuit from Missouri to Texas to Colorado. All of the time Jerry was designing and constructing new games until finally settling in as the games contractor at the Texas Renaissance Faire in Todd Mission, Texas.

Jerry and Kathy's love of the beach led them to a beach house on the Bolivar Peninsula near Galveston, Texas, and then to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize. Jerry spent many hours snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing with his Belizean buddies. They planned to retire there until Jerry's health made living in the States more feasible.

They moved to Ponce Inlet, Fla., where coincidentally their son Ashley had made his home. With their two dogs Magic and Lucky, they enjoyed the beautiful weather and the beautiful beach.

Jerry is survived by his wife: Kathy; son: Ashley; and sister: Jean Anne.

He was preceded in death by his adored daughter: Sally; and by his parents.
