Charles C. Brown

Charles C. Brown, son of David A. Brown and Cleora Brown, was born September 6, 1858, in Franklin county, Mass., and passed from earth at his home in Cresco, Ia., Nov. 30, 1932, aged 74 years, 2 months and 24 days.

At the age of 3 years he came with his parents to Winneshiek county and settled on the farm where he lived until about eleven years ago when he moved to Cresco.

In 1881, he was united in marriage with Miss Ida McCloud. To this union seven children were born, six of whom survive; Mrs. W.A. Daskam, Kendallville,Ia., Mrs. Walter Robinson, Hawkeye, Ia., Mrs. L.A. White, Minot, N.D.; Mrs. John Kakac, Cresco; Mrs. Harry Olson, Nora Springs, Ia.; Edward Brown, Cresco. Paul passed away in August 1919.

In addition to his wife and children there are twenty-one grand children and numerous relatives and friends left to mourn his departure.

Mr. Brown was a progressive farmer, active in church work, fraternal societies, interested in civic affairs and other activities. Not only was he public spirited, he was deeply interested in his home, and like a real man performed his part as husband and farmer. He conducted himself on a high level as friend and neighbor.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F.,Rebekahs, and Modern Woodmen. When a young man he professed conversion to christianity, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and through the years has continued a consistent, dependable member of the church. The passing of such a man leaves a real vacancy in the community, but there is a measure of compensation in the splendid influence that remains.

Funeral services were held at two o'clock Friday afternoon in the Methodist Church, the Rev. W.H. Mitchell officiating. Mrs. E.H. Allen, Miss Mae Morris, Will Patterson and C.C. Nichols singing the funeral hymns. Burial was in Oaklawn cememtery.
