Ruby A. Opsahl Erickson, 88, of Cresco, died Tuesday, February 28, at the Patty Elwood Center in Cresco.She was born March 4, 1923, in Mabel, Minnesota, the daughter of Clarence Melvin Opsahl and Elma Thressa Hoscheit Opsahl. Ruby attended school in Mabel and worked as a waitress and receptionist. Ruby met Don Erickson at a dance at Matter’s Ballroom in Decorah. She was united in marriage to Donald C. Erickson on December 10, 1944. Ruby spent her early married years worrying as her new husband shipped out to fight the German army on the European front. Don returned in fine health in June of 1946 and Ruby and Don began their married life together. Ruby has resided in Cresco since 1950. Ruby and Don worked together in numerous businesses and will best be remembered as the owners and operators of the Stop Light Cafe and Tavern from 1960-1970. Ruby went to work for Hoines Drug in 1970 and retired in 1988. Ruby was a member of the First Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Don (1997) and three brothers; Clifford, Norman and Robert; and one sister; Carol Torgerson.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Lauckhart (Richard) of Davis, CA and Pamela Schuyler of Sacramento, CA; a son Larry (Debra Lewis) of Cedar Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren; Carolyn Cooper (Joe), Kristen Mazur (Rob), Erica Powers, and Reid Erickson; one great granddaughter, Sonia Mazur; one brother; Harold; and three sisters, Dorothy Larson, Charlotte Neuhring, and Shirley Erickson

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Cresco, Iowa.Cemetery:
