Lyle Erickson, 76, of Cresco, died Monday, Dec. 19, 1994, at Springdale Community Hospital in Springdale, Ark., following a short illness.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Cresco, with the Rev. Gary Lee officiating. Organist was Darlene Shaw. Charles Hagen was soloist. The congregation also sang during the service.

Casket bearers were Ed Lyon, Larry Erickson, Jim Alstad, Ray Seiler, Tom Erickson, Paul Styve and Terry Curtis. Burial was at Oak Lawn Cemetery. The Lindstrom Funeral Home of Cresco handled arrangements.

Lyle Erickson was born April 3, 1918, on a farm in Frankville Township of Winneshiek County, the son of Ingebret and Christine (Knapstad) Erickson. He was baptized and confirmed at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church.

He married Irene Kolegraph May 17, 1939, in Decorah.

Lyle was a farmer, auctioneer, implement dealer and real estate broker, founding Erickson-Prochaska Real Estate and Auction. He was especially pleased when he received his GED in 1992.

Lyle was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cresco. His commitments to the church included serving as president of the church council. He also was a member of Cresco Kiwanis, Cresco Chamber of Commerce, Cresco Country Club, Howard County Hospital Auxiliary, Howard County Historical Society, Iowa and National Auctioneers Association, Northeast Iowa Board of Realtors, National and Iowa Association of Realtors, Realtors Farm and Land Institute, Sons of Norway, Benevolent Order of Elks, and an honorary member of the Crestwood School FFA.

Lyle was usually involved in community fund-raisers or helping with community projects. He served as an officer in most of the organizations he belonged to, including president of the National Auctioneers Association for the 1976-77 term, and as governor of the National Farm and Land Board.

He was honored by being named to the National Auctioneers Hall of Fame in 1982. Lyle also served on the Cresco Industrial Development Commission, and the new industrial park bears his name for the land donation.

In 1985, Lyle and Irene moved to Belle Vista, Ark. They spent winters there after 1990.

Survivors of Lyle Erickson include his wife, Irene; children Kenneth and Carol Erickson of San Antonio, Texas, and Barbara and DJ Prochaska of Cresco; grandchilren Greg and Peggy Prochaska of Overland Park, Kan., Lynn Prochaska of Cresco, and David and Daniel Erickson of San Antonio, Texas; a great grandchild, Cody Prochaska of Overland Park, Kan.; a brother, Don and Ruby Erickson of Cresco; and three sisters, Dorothy Hagen of Manitowoc, Wis., Gertrude Solheim of Yuma, Ariz., and Arla and Earl Lyon of Decorah.
