Funeral for Mrs. Louise Bareis on Tuesday Afternoon
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Bareis, 79, wife of the late Henry Bareis of Cresco, were held at the Cresco Immanuel Lutheran church Friday afternoon. Mrs. Bareis died in the Cresco hospital last Tuesday afternoon.
Conducting the funeral services was the Rev. E.C. Franke, pastor, and burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery. The Bradley Funeral home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
Mrs. Bareis, the former Louise Stopperan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stopperan was born in Postville March 27, 1884. As a girl she was baptized and confirmed in the Postville Saint Paul Lutheran church.
She was married to Henry C. Bareis in Postville February 2, 1909. Mr. and Mrs. Bareis became the parents of a son, Lester. Mr. and Mrs. Bareis celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1959.
Mrs. Bareis lived in Cresco since her marriage. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church during this time, as well as the Bethany Circle now called the Immanuel Lutheran Church Women. For two years she served as president of the Bethany Circle and also held other positions.
Five years ago Mrs. Bareis suffered a serious heart attack, but she regained much of her strength. During the last year, however, she was in failing health, and was a hospital patient on several occasions.
Surviving Mrs. Bareis are her son, Lester, and a grandson, Walter of Minneapolis.
Preceding the Cresco woman in death were her husband, who died July 6, 1959; three sisters, Mrs. Sophia Meyer, Mrs. Mary Bareis and Mrs. Anna Leupke, and four brothers, Carl, William, John and Fred Stopperan.
