WEST UNION - Frances J. Hoopman, 100, of West Union, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at Good Samitarian Home in West Union. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Clermont.

Frances Josephine Hoopman was born Nov. 22, 1913 in rural Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Haberly) Wilson. After graduation from Cresco High School, she worked at the National Cash department store in Cresco.

On Dec. 13, 1936 she married Gordon John Hoopman in Caledonia, Minn. and they resided in Cresco. In 1947 the family moved to Clermont, Iowa where Fran became active in the community. She was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church, 64 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, PTA, Town and Country Club and bridge club. She enjoyed being a homemaker, gardening, fishing and quilting at the chruch.

After Gordon passed away in 1966, Fran joined the work force as the Home Service Advisor at Interstate Power Company. She worked 12 years loving her job calling it "the best job I could ever have". She retired in 1979 and enjoyed traveling, visiting almost every state.

On Nov. 22, 2013 she celebrated her 100th birthday and she could not believe her age commenting, "Imagine 100! I am really old!"

She is survived by her daughter: Karen (Paul) Vencill of Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter-in-law: Terry Hoopman of Hastings, Minn.; two granddaughters and husbands; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Gordon in February 1966; and her son: Dale on May 27, 2012.
