Harry O. Brooks, Auctioneer 20 Years, Dies Here
Funeral services for Harry Odell Brooks, 79, retired auctioneer and restaurant operator, were held at the Bradley Funeral home Monday afternoon.
Mr. Brooks died of a heart attack shortly after having been admitted to the Cresco hospital Friday evening.
Conducting the funeral services was the Rev. E.C. Franke, pastor of the Cresco Immanuel Lutheran church. Burial was in Oak Lawn cemetery.
Mr. Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Brooks, was born at Belvedere, Illinois, August 22, 1884. In his youth he was baptized in the Belvedere Methodist church.
He was married to Cora Carr in 1904. Mr. and Mrs. Brooks the parents of a son, Harold, who died at the age of 24. Mr. Brooks moved to Cresco in 1913 and continued to live here until his death.
He was united in marriage with Anna Thompson at Caledonia, Minnesota, July 10, 1937.
Mr. Brooks, who was engaged in the auctioneering business for 20 years, also operated a restaurant for nearly 12 years before retiring from active business in 1954.
Surviving Mr. Brooks are his wife, Anna, and three step-children, Vernon, Robert and Curtis, besides five grandchildren. There are tow sisters, Mrs. George Buzzard of Chicago, and Mrs. Robert Inman of Belvedere, Illinois.
Preceding Mr. Brooks in death, in addition to his son, Harold, were two brothers, Sidney and Charles.
