William Bateman,Pioneer Resident, Dies in Cresco
William L. Bateman, 86, life-long resident of Howard county, died in the Cresco Good Samaritan home Monday, following a stroke he suffered last Wednesday.
Funeral services are being held today (Wednesday) in the Methodist church at 10:30 under the direction on the Rev. Paul Somerville, pastor.
Burial will be in the Oak Lawn cemetery with the Bradley Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Bateman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bateman and was born in Albion township December 31, 1871. He attended the rural schools of the county.
Mr. Bateman was married to Cora Peckham on October 6, 1895. The couple farmed in Albion township.
Mrs. Bateman died December 31, 1953.
Mr. Bateman is survived by two sons, Harold Bateman of Cresco, and Stanley Bateman of Waterloo, in addition to two grandsons, Gerald and Lyle Bateman, of Waterloo and one granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Koliha of Lime Springs. There are also several great-grandchildren and one brother, Elmer Bateman of Waterloo.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Archie, John and George Bateman.
