Roy Betts, Former Resident, Dies at 75

Funeral services for Roy Betts were held at First Lutheran church Jan. 19, with the Rev. Carsten Smeby officiating. Interment was in the Oak Lawn cemetery with the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Betts died Jan. 14 at Saint Petersburg, Fla., at the age of 75.

Roy Henry Betts was born April 10, 1894, at Cresco, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martin Betts. He attended New Hampton Business Institute at New Hampton and spent most of his life on a farm north of Cresco, which his grandfather pre-empted in 1857. After retiring from the farm, he spent the winters in his home at Saint Petersburg, Fla.

He was married Oct. 2, 1917, at Big Canoe church at Locust to Gavina R. Bjorgo, who preceded him in death on July 18, 1941. His daughter, Norma Kathleen, also preceded him in death at the age of six weeks.

On Oct. 23, 1965, he was married to Vera L. Bigalk of Decorah, at Christ Lutheran church at Preston, Minn.

He was a member of the First Lutheran church and the Masonic Lodge of Cresco. Masonic services were held at the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home on Jan. 18.

Mr. Betts is survived by his wife, Vera; one son, Wayne L. Betts of Morton, Ill.' daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Audell) B. Matson of Harmony, Minn., Mrs. Otto (Verna) E. Kruse of Tipton, Mavis E. Betts of San Gabriel, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a brother, Lyle W. Betts of Portland, Oregon.
