Mr. Isaac Gregory, the subject of this brief sketch, was born in the town of Baltimore, Windsor county, Vermont, on January 25, 1814, and departed life at Cresco, Iowa, Dec. 11, 1888, aged 74 years, 10 months and 17 days.

He was united in marriage with Miss Lodema Woodward, November 15, 1838. By his marriage two sons were born to him, both of whom survive. Herbert M. resides at Osage and Henry W. in Cresco.

In 1851 he removed to Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin, where for several years he was a successful and prosperous dealer in all kinds of farm produce.

In 1866 he moved to Cresco where he resumed the business of a produce dealer, in which vocation he was actively engaged until a few days before his death.

The companion of his youth died in Cresco on the 4th of June, 1874, and on the 10th of October 1878, he was married to Mrs. Anna Burdick who survives him. By this marriage another son, Morris C., was born to him and in the tender years of life is left fatherless.

He was a public spirited citizen, conscientious, law abiding, ambitious to promote the public good, obliging and a trusty friend.

In the move to incorporate our village, with J.F. Webster, the writer and two others, his name appears; and on the 13th of July 1868, he was chosen as the first mayor of Cresco.

He leaves an invalid widow, three children and Lulu, the daughter of his late wife, to mourn his death.
