Asher Rufus Adams, son of Edward and Cordelia Adams, was born in Luzern, Warren county, New York, on August 28, 1845, and passed away Tuesday July 19, 1932 at his home in Florenceville, Iowa. In 1856 he came with his parents to Fillmore county, Minnesota, and he has continued a resident of this vicinity for 76 years. With his death this locality loses its oldest resident, a worthy pioneer, loved and honored by all who knew him has passed to the great beyond.
On October 23, 1868, he was married to Phoebe Kreeb and to this union one daughter was born, Edna Pruett, who is now living in Los Angeles, Calif. In his early years Mr. Adams learned the carpenter trade which he worked at until the time of the death of his wife in 1883.Following her death he studied pharmacy and obtained his diploma as a registered pharmacist in 1884 and obtained employment in a drug store in Canton, Minn. While thus employed as a pharmacist he learned the jewelry trade and combined that with his work as a pharmacist. Mr. Adams often related experiences he had while a pharmacist, of trips with the local doctors when he assisted them in emergency operations.
On June 5, 1895, he was married to Mary E. Noblett and they have lived very happily in their present home in Florenceville, where they moved soon after their marriage.
Mr. Adams was one of four children, a brother died in infancy, two sisters are now living, Mary in Florida and Cornelia, in Los Angeles.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Adams, his daughter Edna, two sisters, Mary and Cornelia, and two nephews, Roy Noblett of Cresco and Ashley Noblett of Cedar Rapids.
His last resting place in Beautiful Oaklawn cemetery in a lot chosen by him a number of years ago.
