Funeral services for Andrew Andersen were held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. E.C. Franke officiating. Burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery with the Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral home in charge of arrangements.
He died July 11, at his home of a heart attack at the age of 68.
Andrew Christian Andersen, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Anton Andersen, was born at Thisted, Denmark, on July 21, 1901. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Denmark. For the last five years he was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church.
At the age of 17, he emigrated to America and lived in the Iowa City area. He became a naturalized citizen of the United States and joined the navy on July 9, 1923. During his four years of service, he traveled around the world at least twice. Two times he was shipwrecked.
On April 2, 1930, he married Pearl Martin, at Humboldt. For the first 12 years of married life, the Andersens lived in Humboldt county. Then for 8 years they resided in Wisconsin. From 1950 to 1958, they lived in Minnesota and since then in Cresco.
Mr. Andersen was a farmer and carpenter. For a short while he was manager of the Shell Oil Station in Cresco. On January 1, 1970 he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Peter and Christian.
Mr. Andersen is survived by his wife of Cresco; his daughter, Mrs. Maurice Dayton of Brook Park, Minn.; his sons, Andrew, Jr. and Robert of Cresco; his sisters, Mrs. Signe Drake of Cresco and Mrs. Olaf Pedersen of Dashwood, Ontario, Canada; 14 grandchildren.
