Willie R. Ashley Funeral Held in Cresco Church
Funeral services for Willie R. Ashley, 84, who died in the Cresco hospital Saturday morning, were held from the Cresco Methodist church Monday morning.
Conducting the funeral services was the Rev. Paul Somerville, pastor, and burial was in the Oak Lawn cemetery. The Bradley Funeral home had charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Ashley was born in Albion township, July 7, 1880. He was married to Eunice H. Rutherford, June 26, 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Ashley became the parents of a daughter, Thelma. Mrs. Ashley died August 28, 1910.
Mr. Ashley married Anna C. Stevens February 10, 1919. The couple lived on a farm and in 1943 they moved to Cresco. Anna died December 17, 1944.
On July 8, 1957, Mr. Ashley married Mabel M. Wells. Mr. and Mrs. Ashley lived in Lime Springs, until Mrs. Ashley's death in May 1961.
During the last years, Mr. Ashley made his home in Cresco with his step-daughter, Mrs. Hazel Peckham, and his daughter, Mrs. Thelma Swanson, in Victoria, Texas.
Mr. Ashley was a township trustee of Albion township and an Albion school board member for many years. In his early years he was a member of the national guard. He was a life-long member of the Methodist church and was a member of the Cresco Masonic lodge.
Surviving Mr. Ashley are his daughter, Thelma; a granddaughter, Jean Ann; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Hazel Peckham, and two step grandchildren, Mrs. J.C. Nichols of Cresco, and Art Peckham at Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin. There are also six step great-grandchildren and four step great-great grandchildren.
