Helen M. (Sobolik) Bouska, aged 89, died May 14, 2011, at Howard County Community Hospice in Cresco, Iowa. She was born in Cresco, Iowa, graduated from Cresco High School, and received her undergraduate degree in mathematics at Beloit College. After graduating from Beloit, she taught in Oelwein, Iowa, until moving to California. She married Thomas E. Bouska, of Cresco, Iowa, on May 6, 1944, in Glendale, California.

After World War II, they moved back to Cresco until Tom was recalled into the US Air Force for the Korean Conflict. They lived at multiple Air Force bases, and she returned to teaching middle school mathematics in Massachusetts. After moving to Bellevue, Nebraska, she completed her Masters of Education at the University of Nebraska in 1967. While teaching in Bellevue, she served as president of the Bellevue Education Association and was appointed by the governor to the Professional Practices Commission in 1968. She and Tom retired in 1969 and returned to live in Cresco, building a house along the Upper Iowa River in Florenceville and then the "round" house in town. In Cresco, she was an active volunteer at the Evans Memorial Home and the Women's Oak Lawn Cemetery Improvement Association, and a member of Clio Club, the Historical Society, and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. The couple also spent twenty-five winters in Tucson, Arizona.

Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lt. Col. (ret) Thomas E. Bouska; their daughter, Amy S. Bouska, of Cresco; four nieces, Carolen Bailey, Barbara Stone, Kay Eckerman, and Terry Barco; and a nephew, David Billmyer.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, James and Amy (Barnes) Sobolik of Cresco, Iowa; her sisters, Alice (Sobolik) Thies and Elenor (Sobolik) Wilkinson; and a niece, Linda Dolan.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Oak Lawn Cemetery Improvement Fund at C US Bank or the American Heart Association.

Friends may greet the family from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2011 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco, Iowa, and also one hour prior to services at the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame Parish in Cresco, Iowa.

Interment will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco, Iowa.

CRESCO- A Mass of Christian Burial for Helen M. Bouska of Cresco was held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 17,2011 at Notre Dame Parish in Cresco.Inurnment was held in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cresco.

Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco handled the arrangements.
