Funeral Services for Cresco Veteran Dentist Here Sunday
Dr. E.H. Allen Died at Cypress Gardens, Winter Haven, Florida, March 13
Funeral services for Dr. E.H. Allen, Cresco dentist for nearly a half-century, were held Sunday afternoon in the Larson Funeral home. Dr. Allen died March 13 while vacationing with Mrs. Allen near Winter Haven, Florida.
Services were conducted by the Rev. George W. Turner, pastor of the Cresco Methodist church. Masonic burial was held under the direction of L.C. DeNoyelles, member of the Cresco Masonic lodge, of which Dr. Allen was a member.
Dr. and Mrs. Allen had gone to Florida about March 1 where they were guests of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Ward. Dr. Ward was a school mate of the Cresco dentist 50 years ago.
While in Florida, Dr. and Mrs. Allen were joined by Mayor and Mrs. C.H. Moen of Cresco. The two couples, visited Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Tillson, Cresco residents, who are spending the winter months at Lakeland. After concluding their visit with the Tillsons, the Allens and Moens visited the Bach tower (singing tower) at Lake Wales and the Cypress gardens in Winter Haven. It was there that Dr. Allen suffered a fatal heart attack.
Edward Hart Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Allen, was born November 3, 1875, at Woodstock, McHenry county, Illinois. He received his early education in Woodstock, later attending the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, Chicago, from which he graduated with a degree in dental surgery in 1903.
Dr. Allen opened a dental office in Cresco, and here he since made his home. He was married to Maude Kuder of Lime Springs, August 9, 1905, and they became the parents of a son, Edward Kuder Allen, May 15, 1908.
During his active years, the prominent Cresco man was a member of the American Dental association, Iowa State Dental society, Cresco Chamber of Commerce, Cresco Country Club and Kiwanis club. He served as member of the city council for two years and was a past senior deacon of the Cresco Masonic lodge.
In reading the life sketch of Dr. Allen at the funeral services, the Rev. Mr. Turner said, "Dr. Allen had lived almost all of his adult life in Cresco, and his life is well-known. He was a good citizen, a highly intelligent man. He will be missed not only by his family, but by many friends."
Surviving Dr. Allen are his widow and son, Dr. E.K. Allen, of Saint Ansgar, and one granddaughter,Marveen Allen.
