Funeral services for Walter Anderson who died at his home southeast of town about 5:30 o'clock Saturday evening, June 25, 1938, were held at the home at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. L.W. Moench, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran church officiated. Mrs. Geo. West and Marie Radke sang "Jesus Savior Pilot Me." Burial was in Oaklawn cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Henderson, Godfred Qualley, Hugo Matt, Ernest Peters, J. Storlie and E.W. Williams.
Walter Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson, was born at Ridgeway, Iowa, Aug. 9, 1893. He was married to Miss Anna Milbrath on Nov. 17, 1915, by the Rev. A.F. Damerow at Decorah. Mr. and Mrs. Anderson lived in the east part of town on Fourth Avenue East until over a year ago when they moved to their present home and small acreage on the outskirts of Cresco where Mr. Anderson passed away.
Mr. Anderson was a highly respected citizen. He had many friends in Cresco and vicinity which was attested by the large attendance at the funeral, the many beautiful floral offerings and other manifestations of the high regard of those who knew him. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church and of the Brotherhood of that church. He attained the age of 44 years, 10 months and 16 days.
Those who mourn his untimely death are Mrs. Anderson and their five year old adopted son Eugene; three brothers: Theodore Anderson of Harmony, Minn.; Arthur of Cresco; Morton of Warwig, N.D., and one sister, Mrs. Ed Kjorlien of Devils Lake, N.D.
Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Edwin Kjorlien of Devils Lake, N.D.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Milbrath, son Alton and Miss Evelyn Quast, Rose Creek, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Milbrath and daughter Phyllis of Clinton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Haugen, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bruvold and Mrs. Marie Lomen, all of Decorah; William Milbrath of Elusion, Minn.;Mrs. Frank Engeldardt of Duluth, Minn.; Ernest Anderson of Ostrander, Minn.; Mrs. Frebert Bigalk and daughter Lucy, Mr. and Mrs. John Gatzke, Mrs. Reuben Gatzke and Arnold Bigalk, all of Preston, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson of Harmony.
