Roger D. Brookins, age 69, of Cresco, Iowa passed away Friday, October 25, 2013 at home.

Visitation for Roger will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Heritage Events Center, 229 West 3rd Ave., Cresco, Iowa 52136, Cresco, Iowa, with military rites presented at 7:00 p.m. by the American Legion Post #605 of Protivin, IA.

Roger Dean Brookins was born on September 24, 1944 son of Robert and Isabell (Drewelow) Brookins in Chickasaw County, Iowa. He worked at John Deere before joining the United States Army. On April 23rd, 1966, he married Elaine Clark in Decorah, IA. Since retiring from active Dairy Farming, Roger still enjoyed working at the Cresco Sale Barn and Farmer’s Mill. Roger was a member of the American Legion Post #605 of Protivin, DHIA, and Howard County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed playing cards and scrabble, watching NASCAR, camping, and listening to polka music. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, and attending grandchildren’s sporting events and various activities.

Roger is survived by his wife, Elaine of Cresco, his children, Lucinda (Mike) Yslas of Colorado Springs, CO, Barry Brookins of Dyersville, IA, Aaron Folkert of Mantorville, MN, Elizabeth (Kip) Powers of Cresco, IA, Hilory (Craig) Harding of Stockbridge, GA, grandchildren, Kara Yslas, Adam and Avery Powers, Abigail and Kameron Folkert, Emma and Sarah Harding, step grandchildren, Kayleigh Hock, Jessica Yslas, Brittany and Dustin Shaw, step great grandchildren, Bentley Kidwell, Nolen and Aspen Nelson , Spencer, Alden and Lewis Shaw, and Cayden Yslas, his brothers, Art (Doris) of Chatfield, MN, and Joe (Georgiann) of Ellendale, MN, sisters, Valerie Pettit of Coralville, IA, Judy Brookins of Platteville, WI, Joann (Ron Lectenburg) Brookins of Ionia, IA, Alberta (John) Linneman of Mt. Hope, WI, and Bonnie Brookins of Washington, IA, and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, Robert and Isabell, and his father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Martha Clark, preceded him.
