Winneshiek County Pioneer is Called by Death

Mrs. Mary Etta Allen, age 80 years died at her home in Ridgeway Saturday at 11:45 a.m. following a brief illness.

Monday morning Mrs. Allen complained of not feeling well and while preparing breakfast she suffered a stroke of apoplexy. Her son in an adjoining room was summoned an she was unconscious within a few minutes from the time she was stricken and remained unconscious until death.

Mary Etta Griffeth was born in Amsterdam, New York. For the past 60 years she has resided in Ridgeway, previous to that time she lived in New York, Wisconsin and Dubuque, Iowa.

Her husband, M.E. Allen preceded her in death 38 years ago. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. A.W. Prann, Hermiston, Oregon; Mrs. Cora Butz, Westfield, N.J., two sons R.E. Allen, Scappose, Oregon, and Orville at home; also two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Carl Stern, Santiago, Calif., Mrs. E.E. Armstrong, Chicago and J.W. Griffeth of Ridgeway.

Funeral services were held at the German Methodist church Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. G.C. Clausen officiated. Burial was in Oaklawn, Cresco.
