Kenneth Shea, 82, of Lime Springs, Iowa, died Sunday, September 22, 2013, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, Iowa, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, at the funeral home.
Kenneth Charles Shea was born June 23, 1931 to John Joseph and Lucille Agnes (Milz) Shea in Volga City, Iowa. On December 30, 1952, Kenneth was united in marriage to Betty Taylor at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco. Kenneth enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. Farming and being a cattleman was very important to Kenneth. He was conservation minded and was always worried about the land. A lifelong dream of Kenneth’s was to build a spring-fed pond and stock it with fish for family fun, which he accomplished. Fishing with his buddies, hunting, bowling for Archer Oil, playing cards, and watching the Iowa Hawkeye’s and Boston Red Sox were some of Kenneth’s favorite pass times. He would never say no to a family ball game or a day at the county fair. Family was very important to him. Kenneth was a very involved member of the Knights of Columbus, Iowa Cattleman’s Association, American Legion, Notre Dame School Board, Farm Bureau, United Shippers, and Notre Dame Parish. Singer Patty Paige and Actor Bob Hope were Kenneth’s favorites. He had the pleasure of meeting both in person.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Betty of Limes Springs, IA, children; Timothy Shea Sr. of Lime Springs, his children Timothy (Bonnie) Shea Jr of Cresco, their children Elizabeth and A.J., and Amanda (Jarred) Tomlinson of Cedar Rapids, their son Blake Charles; Keith (Barbara) Shea of Lyle, MN, their children Lacy Shea of Lyle, MN, her children Frederick and Bernadette, and Cody Shea of Austin, MN; Karen (Tom) Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, their children Wayne (Linnea) Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, their children Jayden and Cameron, Chris Wencl of Blooming Prairie, MN, and Jenny Wencl of St. Paul, MN; Patrick (Donna) Shea of Rose Hill, IA, their daughter Laura-Jean Lucille Shea; and Rita Shea of Cresco; and siblings, Elizabeth (Adrian) Schatz of Cresco, Neil (Jean) Shea of Hemet, CA, Don (Mary Ann) Shea of Cresco, and Robert (Laurie) Shea of Blacksburg, VA.
He is preceded in death by his son, Wayne Shea, parents, John and Lucille Shea, and a sister, Marilyn Shea.
