Veryl Victor Zubrod, 84, of Cresco, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 10, 2013, at Patty Elwood Center in Cresco, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 404 North Elm Street, Cresco, Iowa, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, at the funeral home, with a scripture wake service to be held at the end. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Veryl Zubrod was born on February 10, 1929, son of John and Margaret (Gebel) Zubrod in North Washington, Iowa. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School through the 8th grade when he left to help on the family farm. On October 24, 1950, he married Alice Boehmer at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alta Vista, Iowa. During Veryl’s life, he worked at the ore mines in Hibbing, MN, Oliver Tractors, Salisbury, and Walsh Manufacturing in Charles City, the pellet plant in Nashua, IA, and hauled milk for Uptown Dairy. Veryl especially loved farming. He worked on the farm north of Bassett until hiring out as a farm hand. Veryl and Alice then bought the 140- acre farm in the Cresco area. In 1964, he bought the first articulating 4-wheel drive tractor in all of Howard County, and started his passion of custom farming and sold Trojan seed corn and NaChurs fertilizer. Veryl was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He collected belt buckles and caps, watched racing, was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bulls and played cards. He was also known to give his grandchildren a hard time.

Surviving Veryl is his wife, Alice of Cresco, children, Connie Paulson of Dubuque, IA, and her son, Micky (Tammie) Paulson, and their children, Mavrick and Saige Paulson, Lonnie (special friend Nancy Price) of Windsor Heights, IA, and his daughter, Jonie (Jared) Keune, Ronald of Center Point, IA, and his daughters, Amy (Chuck) Kraft and their children, Cami and Cooper Kraft, and Olivia Zubrod, Gerald (Penny) of Cresco, and their children, Melissa (Jermy) Jones, Laura Zubrod, and Amanda (John) Schmitz, and their son, Owen Schmitz, Rodney (Roxanne) of Cresco, and their sons, Ramon and Reece Zubrod, and Roxann (Alan) Vokaty of Cresco, and their son, Shane Vokaty, his siblings, Anna Marie Marvin of Nashua, IA, Delores Schatz of Cresco, and Don (Deanna) Zubrod of Cleghorn, IA.

Preceding him in death are his parents, son-in-law, Ricky Paulson, sisters, Lorraine Schmitt, and Shirley Holzer, and brother, Reynold Zubrod.
