ELMA- Lynn B. Stevenson, 81, of Elma died Saturday,Dec. 12, 2009 after a brief battle with cancer at the Colonial Manor in Elma. A private family service will be held at a later date. Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in Elma is handling the arrangements.

Lynn Bernard Stevenson was born Sept. 18, 1928 the son of Lynn A. and Nellie (Seavy) Stevenson on a farm north of Riceville. He graduated from Elma High School, and later graduated from Upper Iowa University at Fayette with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.

On Aug. 29, 1947, he married Amojean Murphy in Waterloo. The couple moved to South Dakota near Gettysburg where his teaching career began. He taught there for five years before returning to Iowa where he taught country school near Maple Leaf. During this time he also farmed until 1963. Lynn finished his teaching career in Cresco, teaching the sixth grade. After 27 years he retired from teaching and became district sales manager for Old North West Insurance Company of Minneapolis, Minn. for 17 years.

Lynn enjoyed playing cards, reading, riding horses, tinkering on cars, music, playing the harmonica, calling square dances, and being with family.

He is survived by his four children: Lynn E. (Diana) Stevenson of Alta Vista, Cheri (Dennis) Austin of Osage, Michael (Diana)Stevenson of Prairie DuChien, Wis. and Terri (Darwin) Kock of Elma; brothers: Kenneth Stevenson of Elma and Donald Stevenson of San Dimas, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amojean on October 31, 2006; his parents; sister: Marjorie Wells; brother: Brice Stevenson; and two sisters-in-law: Betty and Barbara.
