CRESCO- Curt H. Lammers, 63, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at his home in Cresco. It was Curt's wish to be cremated and no formal services held.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 24 at the Conway Funeral Home in Cresco.

Curt Harvey Lammers was born Feb. 24, 1948 in Moline, Ill., the son of Harvey and Barbara (Krakliow) Lammers. As a small boy Curt moved to the Lime Springs, Chester area with his family. Curt attended Lime Springs Elementary School and graduated High School in Cresco in 1966. Curt then attended Mankato State to further his education. He entered the US Army on March 19, 1968 serving with Company C 2nd Bn 41st Infantry. Curt served two months in Viet Nam earning numerous medals, badges and the Purple Heart. Curt was transferred to the Reserves in Ft. Hood, Texas on August 18, 1969 to the expiration of his term of service.

On Sept. 5, 1970, he married Barbara Boots at the Methodist Church in Chester. Curt had worked for the Chester Telephone Company and then started working for GTE in Cresco and worked there until it became Iowa Telecom and he retired after working over 30 years.

Curt was an avid fast pitch softball player and played for the Chester Team, he enjoyed bowling and rolled a 298, which he was very proud of. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Nascar fan. He belonged to the Cresco Country Club and had served on its Board of Directors, was a member of the American Legion, the Cresco Wildlife Club and was a union stewart of many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and would make the spring trip north to catch the big one. Curt and Barbara wintered in Texas following his retirement, and both liked to travel.

Curt is survived by his wife Barb; two children: Tom of Forrest City, Ark. and Laura (Steve) Ellingson of Clive, Iowa; two grandchildren: Elijah and Israel Ellingson; his mother: Barbara Lammers of St. Michael, Minn.; one sister: Susan Cartney of Otsego, Minn., and one brother; Larry (special friend Pam) Lammers of Chester.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey.
