Roger Mohs, 80
BEND, OR- A memorial service for Roger W. Mohs of Bend, Ore. was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, 2011 at the Bend Fellowship Church.
Roger, 80, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2011.
Roger William Mohs was born Feb. 15, 1931 in Cresco, the son of Carl and Sophie (Henning) Mohs. He attended Cresco High School where he excelled in football and wrestling, graduating in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Navy Seabees from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. While stationed in Port Hueneme, Calif. he met and married Barbara Florand of Norwalk, Calif. on July 17, 1953. He served two tours of duty in the Philippines.
After leaving the military, he went to work for General Telephone Co. of Calif. as a lineman, installer and repairman, moving on to management as a supervisor in Marina Del Ray, Calif. for 30 years. During this time, he was very active in the Optimist Club of Mar Vista, Calif. for several years serving as president and secretary- treasurer, retiring in 1986.
His pleasures were golfing, fishing and hunting with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter: Carol Jensen (Kris) of Salem, Ore.; son: Mark (Tammy) of Redondo Beach, Calif.; three grandchildren: Brian of Denver, Colo., Laura and Jeffrey of Portland, Ore.; and two step grandchildren: Jana and Erik of Redondo Beach, Calif.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
