Cletus Vokaty, 39, Funeral at Schley
Funeral services for Cletus Raymond Vokaty were held Jan. 8, at the Holy Cross church at Schley with the Rev. Clarence Kruse officiating. Burial was in the Holy Cross cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 135 of Cresco. Peckosh-Conway Funeral home had charge of the arrangements. Mr. Vokaty died suddenly at his home on Jan. 5, at the age of 39.
He was born Oct. 1, 1932, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vokaty. He attended rural school in Paris township. He was a member of the Holy Cross church at Schley, Holy Name society, and the American Legion Post 135.
He entered the army Oct. 15, 1952 and was discharged Aug. 20, 1954. He served in the Korean conflict having been wounded on July 15, 1953. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good conduct medal, Combat Infantry badge, Republic of Korea Presidential Citation.
On Nov. 15, 1954, he married Lorraine Shimek. He was a tavern operator and truck driver. He lived in Howard county all his life.
He was preceded in death by his father who died in 1934.
Mr. Vokaty is survived by his wife of Schley; four children, Wayne, Jillaine, Maureen and Ruby all at home; his mother, Mrs. Louis Milota of Protivin; two brothers, Francis Vokaty of Elma and Ronald Milota of Cedar Rapids.
Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Cresco, Elma, Protivin, Lourdes, Ridgeway, Cedar Rapids, Waterloo, Calmar, Evansdale, Spillville, Decorah, Charles City, Little Turkey, Ossian, Fort Atkinson, Sheffield, Lime Springs, New Hampton and Lawler, Albert Lea and LeRoy, Minn.
