Edward Tlusty, 72, services held August 27
Funeral services for Edward Tlusty were held at 10:30 a.m. August 27 at Holy Cross Catholic church in Schley. The Rev. Lloyd Reuter and Msgr. D.P. Heineman concelebrated the mass with burial in the church cemetery. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons, Rick, Michael, Mark and Randy Tlusty, Duane Ferrie and Bernard Reinking and a nephew, Bill Koudelka.
He died August 23 at the Howard County hospital of a heart attack at the age of 72.
Edward Tlusty was born April 15, 1912 in Howard county, the son of Joseph and Antonia (Benedict) Tlusty. He attended the rural Lourdes school.
On June 2, 1936, Edward married Helen Koudelka in Holy Trinity church. He farmed in Howard county all of his life until retiring two years ago and moved to Cresco. Edward played drums with various bands since he was 16 years old. The last 20 years he was manager of Eddie’s Old Timers and played in northeast Iowa and Minnesota. He was a member of Holy Cross church.
Survivors are his wife, Helen of Cresco; a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Anfinson and a son, Donald E. Tlusty; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Tlusty and John Tlusty, both of Cresco; two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Koshatka and Mrs. Margaret Hovorka, both of Cresco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Wagner and five brothers, Henry, Joe, James, Albert and a twin brother who died in infancy.
Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Sgt. Rick Tlusty, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; PFC 3rd Class Michael Tlusty, Pinder Bks., Germany; also Staples, Bowersville, Minneapolis, Owatonna, Rochester and Harmony, MN; New Hampton, Orchard, Nashua, Oelwein, Fairbank, Sumner, Tripoli, Dunkerton, Clinton, Waverly, Mason City, Charles City, Westgate, Readlyn, Waterloo, Evansdale and the surrounding area towns.
