Services held for Jesse{sp} Svestka, 98

Jessie Svestka, 98, died Friday, June 6, at the Cresco Care Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. June 9 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery at Schley. Rev. Michael C. Fitzgerald presided. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Johanna Svestka was born in Howard Township, Howard County, IA, on December 3, 1898, the daughter of Joseph and Caroline Kubesh Shimek. Jessie was baptized in Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She attended the rural school near Maple Leaf.

On September 12, 1925, she was married to Ruben Svestka at the Holy Trinity Church in Protivin. They made their home on the farm in Schley. They later moved into Cresco. Ruben died on February 22, 1969 and Jessie made her home in Cresco until she had to enter the nursing home. Jessie was a former member of the Holy Cross Church in Schley, she belonged to the Holy Cross Altar and Rosary Society, Evening in Paris Club, presently she belonged to the Assumption Catholic Church, the Assumption Altar and Rosary Society.

She is survived by her children: Clair, Paul, Arthur all of Cresco; 20 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one step grandchild; one sister: Lucy Carroll of Cresco.

Jessie was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Giovanne Hruska-Walton; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one step grandchild; her parents, three brothers: William, Edward, and an infant, Joseph; four sisters: Johanna Shimek, Louise Maravetz, Bernadette Burke, and Helen Ingraham.
