Eugene H. Strawn, an early resident of Howard county, died at the home of brother in Orland, Cal., May 29, 1916. He was born in Winnebago, Ill., March 13, 1850, a descendant of Jacob Strawn, A Quaker of English decent, who settled in Bucks county, Penn., in 1862.

Deceased married Harriet Miller of Butler county, Iowa, in 1872, and they moved to Colorado in 1879 where they made their home. Three children were born to them, two dying in infancy; Lola died at the age of 10. Three years ago the wife died. Shortly after her death, Mr. Strawn's health failed and last March he started by auto to California where he remained till his death.

He leaves 9 brothers and 3 sisters his eldest brother Benjamin died in the Civil was aged 18; Mrs. Lucina Weber, the oldest sister, died in 1886. Those living are: William of Idaho, James, Charles, Marrion, Herman and Arthur of California, Harrison of Hansboro, N.D., L.E. of Cresco, Delbert of Vermillion of S.D., Mrs. Lydia Palmer of Idaho, Mrs. Ada Conroy of Wisconsin, Mrs. Ada Bloomerader of Blunt, S.D. Two years ago Mr. Strawn visited his old home in Howard county. He had been gone 36 years. He came unannounced and none of his relatives knew him. His parents who passed away in Cresco several years ago were among the first settlers in this county, coming to New Oregon in the spring of 1854.
