RATHERT

John Henry Gotlieb Rathert, the fourth child of Freidrick and Mary Rathert, was born July 29th, 18156{sic}, in Dearborne county, Indiana.

In 1870 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith to which he was a faithful member through life. At the age of seventeen he emigrated with his parents to Bonair, Iowa, where they settled on a farm.

On the 26th day of October, 1880, he was united in marriage to Margaret Dotzler. This happy union was blessed with six children, four boys, George J., Henry J., Frank A., one boy dying in infancy, two girls, Mrs. F. J. Bouska and E. Frances, all of whom resided with him at the time of his death.

In 1910 the family removed to Starbuck, Manitoba, Canada, where he peacefully passed away at 12:15 Sunday, Oct. 24th.

All medical aid and loving hands could do was of little or no avail.

He leaves to mourn his death, a loving wife, five children, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. George Rathert and one son-in-law, Mr. F. J. Bouska, three grandchildren, Gerald Rathert, Francis and Elaine Bouska. One sister, Mrs. Charles Leffler and one brother Wm. Rathert, both of Cresco, one sister and two brothers having preceded him in their heavenly home above.

Transcribed from a newspaper clipping submitted by Janice Sowers.

Transcriber’s Note: The date of his birth was probably 1856 as it agrees with him being 17 in 1874 which is mentioned in his father’s obituary, which also indicates his father’s full name was John Henry Frederick Rathert.
