OBITUARY

RATHERT – At his home, on the farm 1 ½ miles south of Bonair, Howard county, April 14, 1893, Mr. John Henry Frederick Rathert, aged 73 years, 2 months and 12 days.

Deceased was born at Todtenhausen, Germany, February 2nd 1820. In 1945 he emigrated to America, first locating in Cincinnati, Ohio, then removed to the state of Indiana, settling in Jackson township, Dearborn county, where he in 1849 was married to Miss Mary Dickmann; from thence, in February 1874, he came with his family to Iowa, making his permanent home on the farm near Bonair, from where Feb. 1888, his wife preceded him to the grave. Of the seven children that were born to them, but three – Mrs. Chas. A Leffler, of Cresco, Mr. John Rathert, with whom the deceased, since the departure of his life’s companion, had made his home, and Mr. Wm. F. Rathert, of Cresco; survive their father.

The funeral services were held at the house, Sunday, the 16th inst., by E. N. Helmann, his pastor.
