Services today for Guy Phillips
Funeral services for Guy Ellsworth Phillips will be held today at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 3 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco. Interment will be in the Phillips Cemetery at Bonair. The Rev. Lewis Flanigan will officiate. Lindstrom Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Guy, 82, died February 1, 1999 at the Regional Health Services in Cresco.
Guy Ellsworth Phillips was born December 28, 1916 in Cresco, the son of Everett and Lila (Bawden) Phillips. He was baptized in the United Methodist Church. He graduated from Cresco High school in 1934 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette for two years. He then transferred to Iowa State University and graduated in 1940 with a BS degree in Forestry.
On August 25, 1941 he married Mary Bernadeen Davis of Wee, CA in Reno, NV. He was employed by Koppers Company-Forest Products Division in California, Washington and Oregon for 19 years; in Alaska for 5 years, and 15 1/2 years at North Bend, OH for a total of 39 1/2 years. He retired in Cincinnati, OH in November of 1979.
Guy became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1946. He joined the AF and AM Mason Lodge in 1949, becoming the 4th generation Phillips to become a Mason. In 1954 he joined the Scottish Rites of the Masons and became a Shriner the following year.
Following retirement, Guy returned to his boyhood home to spend his remaining years. He remained there until moving to the Patty Elwood Center in May of 1998.
Guy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bernadeen in 1977 and his parents.
