Everett Phillips, 91, services held Monday

Funeral services for Everett Phillips were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 17 at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. The Rev. Thomas Woodin officiated with interment in Phillips cemetery at Bonair. A Masonic memorial service was held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home.

Mr. Phillips died November 14, 1986 in Evans Memorial Home at the age of 91. He had made his home there for the last three years.

Everett Ellsworth Phillips was born March 23, 1895, the son of Howard Charles and Mary Ellen (Richards) Phillips on the family farm near Bonair. He attended the rural school and graduated from Cresco High School in 1913.

On December 28, 1915 Everett was united in marriage to Lila Leola Bawden. They were the parents of two sons. Everett and Lila spent their first year on the farm. In 1915 he received an appointment as a rural mail carrier and they moved into Cresco. He also worked as a carpenter and nurseryman for several years. Everett retired from the postal service after serving 40 years as a mail carrier on different routes from the Cresco Post Office.

Everett was a life long member of the Methodist Church; a member of Howard Lodge #214 of Masons for over 50 years and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

He is survived by his sons, Guy and Richard, both of Cresco; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1984; also an infant brother and a sister, Lela Henning.
