Memorial service held for Dr. Charles Walton

On August 16, 1987, the ill-fated crash of a Northwest Airlines plane at Detroit, MI took the life of Dr. Charles F. Walton, M.D.

A memorial service was held at 1:30 p.m. August 21 in St. Stephen's Catholic Church at Chester with the Rev. Henry Dunkel officiating. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Charles Francis Walton, son of Robert J. Walton and the late Mary (Wentworth) Walton, was born in Cresco on September 16, 1948. In 1951 the family moved to Lime Springs where he attended grade school. He graduated fifth in his class of 135 at Crestwood High School in 1966. That fall he entered the University of Iowa, graduating in 1970. While attending the University of Iowa, Chuck was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa National Scholastic Society and the Phi Eta Sigma, Freshman Honor Society. He was also a member of the Student American Medical Association and Family Practice Club. Dr. Walton graduated from the University of Iowa Scholl of Medicine on May 18, 1974.

Charles served three years of Internship for Family Practice at Broadlawns Polk County Hospital in Des Moines, beginning July 1, 1974. Following his internship he was Chief Physician at the Indian Reservation Clinic for six years before joining CIGNA Health Plan at Mesa, Arizona as General Practioner.

On September 21, 1974, Chuck married Mary Giudici in Davenport. Their son Christopher Michael was born on Feb. 22,1977. Their marriage was later dissolved.

He is survived by his son Christopher of Tempe, AZ; his father, Robert and stepmother, Jo of Lime Springs and a brother James of Arizona; also his paternal grandmother, Vera Price of Cresco.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Mary; His paternal grandfather, John Walton and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Wentworth.
