Services held for Grace Mrachek

Funeral services for Grace Mrachek of Cresco were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 26 at the St Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in rural Schley. The Rev. Henry W. Charipar and Rev. Raphael Ludwig officiated. Conway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Grace, 84, died Thursday, December 21, 2000 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse.

Grace Cecilia Mrachek was born November 23, 1916 in Howard County near Cresco the daughter of Frank J. and Rose (Ondrasek) Valvoda. She attended the St. Joseph School while she stayed at her grandparents, helped out on the farm and went to work as a young girl.

On February 15, 1939, she married Arthur G. Mrachek at Cresco. They started farming in the Schley area and lived on the farm until Arthur died in 1979. Grace then moved into Cresco where she lived until her death.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Holy Cross Altar and Rosary Society and joined the St. Joseph’s Church and Altar and Rosary Society after moving into Cresco.

Grace is survived by her children: Walter of Cresco and Alvin of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Ludwig of Elma.

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry and Marvin Valvoda.
