Edw. J. Malek Dies in San Diego Naval Hospital

A telegram Tuesday reported the death of Edward J. Malek, in the Naval hospital in San Diego, Calif., where he had been a patient for several months. The shock of his death to his mother, Mrs. Lena Malek, and other relatives was lightened by two previous wires reporting his condition critical.

Upon receipt of the earlier message, his son Roger of Cedar Rapids and brother William of Mason City started for San Diego. When report of his death came they were reached by a telegram delivered to them on the train in Hutchinson, Kansas, and they abandoned the trip and returned home. The body will be brought to Cresco accompanied by a military escort and from here will be taken to Schley, where funeral services will be held and burial made. It is expected the body will reach here Saturday. No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

Edward enlisted in the U. S. Navy about a year ago. He met with an accident while on duty and he was sent to the hospital. Complications set in which resulted in his death.
