Services held for Ruth Logsdon

Funeral services for Ruth E. Logsdon of Springfield, OH, formerly of Evansdale were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2007 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Evansdale. Committal services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Phillips Cemetery near Bonair, IA.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, January 31 from 4-7 p.m. at the Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo.

Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories in Waterloo, IA handled the arrangements.

Ruth, 87, died Thursday, January 25, 2007 at the Essex Care Facility in Springfield.

Ruth Eileen Murray was born November 1, 1919, in the middle of the night during a blizzard on the family farm near Bonair, the daughter of Daniel and Eva (Grabau) Murray. Ruth attended country school and then graduated with the class of 1938 from Crestwood High School in Cresco, IA. She then attended Pitzie’s Beauty School in Waterloo and worked as a beautician for many years in Evansdale.

Ruth married Carl Ulm, Sr. and they divorced. She married Vernon Logsdon and they divorced.

{a portion of obituary seems to be missing} she also spent many years as a Sunday school teacher. While in Evansdale she attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, served on the women’s circle, chaired the Education Committee and was also active in the Jewett Elementary PTA and Band Booster Club, Blue Star Mothers, T.O.P.S. Club and sold Sarah Covington Jewelry, serving as a branch manager for the company.

Ruth resided in Alva, OK for many years, and attended the First United Methodist Church. While in Alva she was also active with the Busy Bees Homemakers Group. The past few years she has lived in Springfield, OH.

She is survived by one son Carl (Erin) Ulm, Jr. of West Plaines, Mo; two daughters Sandra (Dick) Clements of Evansdale, Susan Rivas of O’Fallon, IL; two sisters Esther Zweibohmer of Ossian, IA, Rosetta (Lawrence) Burkey-Stattelman of Texas; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers; Lyell and Paul Murray.
