Funeral for Mrs. William Hyke, Sr., Tuesday Morning

Funeral services for Mrs. William Hyke, Sr., 78, of Lime Springs, who died in the Cresco hospital Saturday following a short illness, were held at the Schley Holy Cross Catholic church yesterday morning.

Mrs. Hyke, who had been a patient in the Cresco hospital 10 days before her death, had undergone surgery. Six days following the operation she died of a heart condition.

Offering the requiem mass was the Rev. C. J. Burke, assistant pastor, and burial was in the Holy Cross church cemetery. The Peckosh Funeral home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Hyke, the former Mary Ann Malek, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Malek, was born in Howard county on March 20, 1884. She attended the rural schools near her home and the parochial school at Protivin. She was a life-long resident of the community.

She was married to William Hyke, Sr., in Protivin September 190(illegible). Mr. and Mrs. Hyke became the parents of 10 children, one of whom died in infancy.

Surviving Mrs. Hyke are her husband and nine children, including Ben Hyke of Frederick, California; Leonard Hyke of Lime Springs, William Hyke, Jr. of Waverly, Clem Hyke of Harmony, Mrs. Mike (Agnes) Driscoll of Cresco, Mrs. Leeman (Mary Jane) Hudson of Cresco, Mrs. Clara Stokes of Minneapolis, Mrs. William (Genevieve) Hruska, Sr. of Cresco, and Charles Hyke of Evansdale.

Besides 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, there are also four sisters, including Mrs. Elizabeth Bouska, who makes her home in a Nashua rest home, and Mrs. Cecilia Lentz, Mrs. Frances Ondrasek and Mrs. Joseph Ondrasek, all of Cresco.

Relatives and friends attended the funeral services from Rochester, Harmony, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, Reedsburg, Wisconsin, and Waterloo, Des Moines, Cresco, Lime Springs, Lourdes, Iowa Falls, Waverly, Protivin, Schley, Evansdale, Fort Atkinson, Ossian, Chester, Ridgeway and Spillville.
