Edith Groth services held today (Wed.)
Services for Edith Groth of Cresco will be held at 11:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, February 23, at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, Elma, with the Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Cresco is in charge of arrangements.
Edith, 79, died Sunday, February 20, 1994, at her home with her family.
Edith F. Groth was born February 15, 1915, in Howard County, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Patten) Flugge. She was the eldest of seven children. She attended country school and graduated from Riceville High School in 1931.
On May 3, 1933, she married Norbert C. Groth at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elma. To this union one daughter was born. While her husband taught school, they lived in Saratoga, Bussey, Riceville, Monona, Earlville, Ames and Elma. In 1949, they moved to a farm near Elma where Edith was a farmwife. They retired from farming and moved to Cresco in 1988.
Edith enjoyed china painting, gardening, flower arranging, pastel painting and church activities. She was a member of the Elma Book Club and Elma Garden Club.
Surviving her are her husband, Norbert; one daughter, Donna Jean; three brothers, Charles Flugge of Sioux Falls, SD, Harold Flugge of Riceville and Albert Flugge of Elma; and three sisters, Dorothy Persing and Caroline Flugge, both of Kansas City, MO, and Helen Shoars of Plymouth.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
