Groth

Our departed sister, Johanna Sophia Friderika Groth, was born October 7, 1878 in Newsommendorf, Germany, and was brought to the Lord in holy baptism in infancy, and became a member of the Lutheran church.

In 1891 she came to the United States with her parents, and lived for a half year in Clayton county, Iowa. Then she moved with her parents to Howard county, Iowa, and lived on a farm near Saratoga.

She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. John Pless in a school house near Davis Corners. In 1925 she moved with her brother Charles, to Elma, Iowa, where she has since lived. She was always in good health, but since June last year, her health had been failing. Wednesday night at 9:15, February 4, she was called to her eternal home. She was 63 years, 3 months and 28 days old.

She was a faithful and loving sister and will be greatly missed by all her relatives and friends. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church at Maple Leaf.

Those who mourn her departure are two brothers, Charles and William Groth, and one sister, Anna Johles. Her parents, two sisters and one brother preceded her in death. May she rest in peace and the eternal light shone upon her.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, February 8, at the home at 1:30 and at St. Paul’s Lutheran church at 2:00 with the Rev. F. Sauerbrey officiating. The funeral sermon was based upon the words of scripture, “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Revelation 2:10. Mr. R. Bueckmann sang the hymn” “Let me go, let me go, that I might see Jesus.”

The pall bearers were four nephews: Walter, Norbert, Erdman and Leonard Groth, Alfred Bachmann and Harold Hartwig.
