Erich Ewald Friedrich was born January 15, 1905, near Elma, the son of Ernest Emil and Anna (Meyer) Friedrich. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in Howard County.

Erich spent most of his life doing farm labor and tiling, farming for himself a few years and working in the Waterloo area and also in Minnesota.

He entered the Colonial Manor in Elma on January 11, 1978, after having spent about three years in the Chautauqua Home in Charles City.

After several months of illness Erich was called to rest on September 17, 1985, at the Colonial Manor in Elma. Funeral services and burial were held at St. Paul’s Maple Leaf Lutheran Church, rural Elma, with the Rev. Bernhardt Polesky officiating and the Rev. Orval Friedrich, Elma, nephew of Erich, delivering the sermon. Casket bearers were grandnephews: James Brandt, Denver; Larry, Lonnie and Harold Friedrich, all of Elma; Rodney Friedrich, New Hampton, and Norman Friedrich, Essex.

Surviving Erich is a sister, Mrs. Dora (Victor) Streich, Rochester, MN.

Erich never married. He was preceded in death by his parent; five brothers, Caesar, Ernest, Dan, William and Emil; and four sisters, Pauline Bueckmann, Martha McCaleb, Anna Halweg and Emma Hyberger.
