MRS. MYRTLE EVANS FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Myrtle Evans, 83, were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, at the United Methodist church in Cresco with the Rev. Thomas Woodin officiating. Interment was in Phillips cemetery, rural Cresco, with Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. She died Saturday at Minneapolis, Minn.

Myrtle Mae Cameron was born Dec. 8, 1896 to Lloyd and Anna Cameron, the oldest of eight children. Her early years were spent on a farm in Winneshiek county. When Myrtle was in eighth grade, the family moved to Cresco where she attended the public schools and graduated in 1916. After high school she taught in the rural schools. She also attended the University of Iowa and continued teaching in the elementary schools of Volga and Charles City.

Myrtle married a former high school classmate, John Evans, on Dec. 19, 1927 in Austin, Minn. They became the parents of two children, Betty and John. Myrtle and John moved to a farm near Lime Springs where they lived for their entire married life.

Myrtle was active in her community serving as a 4-H leader and a Farm Bureau Women’s group leader for several years. She was a member of the Bonair United Methodist church, the Women’s Society and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a member of the Bonair Garden club until moving to Minneapolis, Minn., in July, 1978 to live with her daughter. In Nov., 1978, Myrtle moved to the Walker Methodist Home.

She is survived by her two children: Mrs. Betty Eide and John Cameron Evans of Minneapolis, Minn., five grandchildren, five brothers: Scott Cameron and Lyle Cameron of Cresco, John Cameron of Minneapolis, Minn., Harold Cameron of Waukee, and C. Paul Cameron of Cedar Rapids, two sisters, Mrs. Flossie Mintey of Cresco, and Mrs. Etta Remke of Austin, Minn.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, John.
