Ruth Evans, fourth child, and third daughter of John W. and Elizabeth A. Evans was born in the home two miles north of Bonair, May 25, 1886. She attended school at Lime Springs and afterwards at Cedar Falls. Began teaching at the age of 16 years and taught with acceptability up to the time of her death. She taught in the Public School of Chester last year and was engaged to teach in the same school during the coming school year. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Bonair about 4 years ago and lived an earnest, consistent, Christian life. She attended the last session of the Howard County Institute of Cresco. The day after the Institute closed, typhoid fever began its fatal work. All that loving hearts and kind hands could do to save her life was done but of no avail. After an illness of three weeks, the Angel of Death called her at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, and she passed peacefully to her rest and reward. She leaves father, mother, six sisters and two brothers besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were held at the home, Monday forenoon, August 26th, conducted by Rev. John Gammona, of Cresco, and Rev. Bellows, of Bonair. Interment was in the cemetery at Bonair.
