Mrs. Lovina Elder funeral held Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. (Robert) Lovina Elder were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the United Methodist church in Cresco with burial at Phillips cemetery in Bonair. The Rev. Wayne Wasta officiated. Bradley-Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She died Feb. 9 at the Howard County hospital.
Lovina Amanda (Walker) Elder, the first child of Orrin and Mary (Johnson) Walker, was born March 17, 1894 on a farm east of Spencer. There she attended the rural schools.
Her mother died June 7, 1905 and Lovina went to live with her father’s sister, Aunt Bertha, in Minneapolis, Minn. where she finished school. She taught country school near Duluth, Minn. and then returned to the Spencer area and taught country school.
She married Robert Elder on Dec. 27, 1917 in the home of her aunt. They farmed in the Spencer area and then moved to Howard county near Bonair. They became the parents of eight children. She was a member of the Bonair Garden club.
She is survived by six children: Donald of Puerto Rico, Mrs. Frank (Jean) Szoke of Burbank, Calif., Mrs. David (Helen) Conner of Beaverton, Ore.; Allen of Ridgeway, Lois Stevens of Bonair and James of Cresco; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Olive Moss of Worthington, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two children, Gordon and Raymond.
