EICKOFF – Died, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sophia F. Bartels, in Howard township, on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 1898, Mrs. Dorothea Eickoff, aged 75 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Dorothea Gewreke was born at Apelern, Schaumburg Lippe, Germany, Aug. 17, 1823. In 1853 she was married to Henry Eickoff, and in 1864 came with him to America, settling in Bremer Co., Iowa. Moving to Elma in 1893, the aged couple lived on the farm of their son–in-law, Earnest F. Bartels, until her husband’s death, about one year ago. Since then Mrs. Eickoff has made her home with her only daughter, Mrs. Sophia Bartels, who with ten grand-children and numerous relatives and friends sadly mourn her departure. Mrs. Eickoff was ever a devoted member of the Lutheran church, and died in the full assurance of the salvation in Jesus Christ. The funeral took place Sunday from the Lutheran church at Maple Leaf. She and her husband are the first to rest in the Maple Leaf cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bartels and Mr. and Mrs. John Bartels, of Fayette Co., and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pape and Mr. Henry Gewreke, of Bremer Co., were here to attend the funeral.
