Herbert Bartels, 77, services held Feb. 1
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 1 at 1:30 for Herbert Bartels at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Maple Leaf of rural Elma. The Rev. Barbara Wills officiated with interment in the church cemetery. Grandsons, Jeff Green, Randy Hinck and Gregg Rademacher served as casket bearers. Conway Funeral Home in Elma was in charge of arrangements.
Herbert died Tuesday, January 28, 1992, at Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage, He was 77.
Herbert Ernest Bartels was born January 24, 1915, on the family farm near Maple Leaf. He was the son of Fred and Louise (Westendorf) Bartels. He attended the rural schools.
On November 18, 1939, he married Verona Prinz at Boone, IA. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Maple Leaf and Elma vicinities until moving to Elma in 1980. Herbert was a member of St. Paul’s Church of which he was a past deacon.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Verona; two daughters, Jane Windhorst of Lake City, MN and Phyllis Rademacher of Rochester, MN; two sons, John and Donald both of Elma; 8 grandchildren, one great grandson; three brothers, Victor of Denver, Leonard of Waterloo and Clarence of Elma; and three sisters, Esther Groth of Boone, Ellen Mixdorf of Waterloo and Helen Maseman of Elma.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters, Rosa Brummond and Mabel Mixdorf.
