Pneumonia Attack Fatal Yesterday To Joseph Barnes

Joseph P. Barnes, 80, of Cresco, died yesterday morning following an illness of more than a year. Bronchial pneumonia during the last three days attributed to his sudden death.

A requiem mass is to be offered in the Holy Cross Catholic church, Schley, Friday morning at 9:30 by the Rev. Louis Trzil, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Peckosh Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.

Joseph Barnes was born in Howard county, February 27, 1873, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Barnes. He attended the Howard county rural schools and lived his entire life in the Schley community.

Mr. Barnes was married to Margaret Novak in the Saint Wenceslaus Catholic church May 1, 1901. The couple became the parents of six children, five of whom survive.

A retired farmer, Mr. Barnes was a member of the Holy Cross church and the Modern Woodman of America.

Surviving Mr. Barnes, are his wife; two sons and three daughters, Mrs. Rudy Scheidel, Mrs. Joseph Polaschek, Miles Barnes, Thomas Barnes and Mrs. Stuart Johnsrud all of Cresco. Also surviving are his brothers and sister, Mike Barnes, Mrs. Amanda Doherty and Andrew Barnes all of Cresco, Frank Barnes of Mitchell, South Dakota, Lee Barnes of Salinas, California, and Mark Barnes of Spokane, Washington, and 18 grandchildren.

Preceding Mr. Barnes in death were a daughter, Zenetta, four brothers and one sister.
