Services held for Chester Perry, 87
Funeral services for Chester Perry were held at 1:30 p.m. June 9, at the United Methodist Church in Cresco. The Rev. Lewis Flanigan officiated. Lindstrom Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Chester died at the Cresco Care Center on Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at the age of 87.
Chet was born November 2, 1908, in Howard Center Township, Howard County, the son of Herbert and Belle (Young) Perry. He graduated from Cresco High School and attended Iowa State University for two and one half years at which time he came back to the family farm. He farmed all of his active life.
On October 5, 1938, he married Phyllis Volkman of Harmony, MN. Chet and Perry{sic} lived in the same house for 50 years before moving to Cresco in April of 1994.
Chet was an active Farm Bureau member for 50 years serving as president, secretary and a voting delegate. He was a member of the Historical Society, the Upper Iowa Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, and was a lifetime member of the Cresco United Methodist Church. He served on the C & H Farm Service Board, Board of Social Welfare, Conservation Board, draft board and was county Republican chairman.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Thomas of Lime Springs; daughter, Carol of Rochester, MN; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
