George Mead,Former Resident, Dies at 65

Funeral services for George F. Mead of Wood River, Ill. were held April 29 at the Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, Ill. The Rev. Roger White, pastor of St. Paul's Episcopal church of Alton, Ill. conducted the service. Internment was in the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. He died April 26, at the Wood River Township hospital.

Mr. Mead was born Dec. 21, 1906 at Cresco, the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Mead. On Feb. 4, 1933, he married Evelyn Derr. He was owner and editor of the Cresco Plain Dealer. For the past 13 years, he was manager of the shoe department at Snyders in Alton, Ill. Prior to that he had worked 13 years for the Alton Brick Co.

He was a member of the Retail Clerks Union 35 and the Moose Lodge of Edwardsville, Ill. He was also a member of the Grace Episcopal church at Cresco.

Mr. Mead is survived by his wife; two sons, Mike of Wheaton, Ill., and Lt. Col. Dana of Washington, D.C.; and four grandchildren.
