Graveside services to be held July 11

Graveside services are scheduled to be held in honor of Harmon E. Hinners, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, at the Howard Center cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harmon, 76, died suddenly Monday, July 4, 1994, at the Custer, South Dakota Community Hospital.

Harmon Ernest Hinners was born July 14, 1917, the son of John Harmon and Neva (Wallace) Hinners, on a farm near Ocheyedan, IA. As a boy he attended rural schools in Osceola County, IA, and Ocheyedan High School. As a young man, he worked as an auto mechanic, farmer and hauled cream before entering the U.S. Army Air Corps-Signal Corp in January of 1942, following Pearl Harbor. He served three years in the South Pacific and Australia, receiving his discharge in June, 1945. Following his discharge, he attended vocational classes at Sibley, IA, in agriculture, draftsmanship and carpentry.

On December 22, 1945, he married Wilma Brockmeyer in Worthington, MN. They farmed in Ocheyedan and Belgrade, MN. Then Harmon worked for Skelly Oil Company on a traveling maintenance crew throughout the south central states. He also worked as mobile home serviceman in Oklahoma City, OK, and Big Spring, TX.

Wilma and Harmon then returned to farming in Lime Springs, moving to Spring Valley, MN, in 1966. In 1967, Harmon was proud to be one of the 10 top salesman for Allis Chalmers in the Minnesota, Wisconsin area. In 1982, he retired as cabinet maker/carpenter for Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN, where he worked for 10 years.

Harmon and Wilma were members of the church of the Nazarene in Brush, CO, and were volunteer forest service campground hosts in the Minnesota State Parks.

Harmon is survived by his wife Wilma of Custer, sons, John Hinners of Huron, SD, Frank Hinners of Cheyenne, WY, and Neal Hinners of Spring Valley, MN, five grandchildren, and one sister, Veidea Williams of Worthington, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Lloyd.
